What AI Agent for Invoice Extraction Does

AI Agent for Invoice Extraction is a part of our AP Automation Crew; at the very start of the process, it handles invoices sent to your AP Inbox and ensures nothing is lost.

While Precoro’s standard AP Automation process works with invoices sent as PDFs or image attachments, the agent processes all other invoice formats.

With it, you can:

  • Automatically detect invoices sent as
    • vendor portal links,
    • cloud storage links (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc),
    • XLSX or CSV spreadsheets,
    • plain text in the email body.
  • Get every non-standard invoice converted into a clean, standardized PDF without manual reformatting.
  • Let the rest of the Intelligent AP Automation proceed: find a matching PO, create an invoice, and route it for approval, just as it handles any standard document.

The AI Agent is enabled automatically as part of Intelligent AP Automation, so it can already help you process emails in your inbox.

How this Agent Works

The AI Agent works independently alongside the standard AP Inbox process. It steps in whenever an email to your AP Inbox address doesn't include a standard attachment, such as a PDF, image, or e-invoice, that Precoro can process directly.

Here's what happens:

  1. The Agent reads the full email, including the subject line, body text, links, and attachments.
  2. It identifies which case applies: a link to the invoice, an invoice written as plain text in the body, or a spreadsheet attachment.
  3. Depending on the case, the Agent follows the link and downloads the file, extracts the invoice details from the text, or converts the spreadsheet, then generates a standardized PDF from the result.
  4. The finished PDF lands in your Precoro AP Inbox, ready for the rest of the Intelligent AP Automation to take over. Spot agent-processed documents by name—it'll start with Generated_Invoice.

If the AI agent can’t process the email and create a PDF version of the invoice, this email will be sent to human review and checked by our team. This may result in the email taking longer to appear on the AP Inbox page.
